Why We Formulate Without SLS & SLES

Snuzhat Care face and body cleansers are formulated without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).

What SLS and SLES are

SLS and SLES are surfactants—ingredients that help water lift away oils, soil and other residue during cleansing. Surfactants are an important part of many cleansers, so choosing an SLS/SLES-free formula does not mean avoiding cleansing ingredients altogether.

What we use instead

Depending on the formula, our cleansing systems use milder surfactants and supporting ingredients such as Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Coco-Glucoside (Coco Symplex) and Lamesoft® PO 65.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a mild amphoteric co-surfactant that supports cleansing and foam. Coco-Glucoside is a gentle non-ionic cleanser derived from glucose and coconut-based raw materials. Lamesoft® PO 65 combines Coco-Glucoside with Glyceryl Oleate and is used as a lipid-layer-enhancing, skin-conditioning ingredient in cleansing products.

Chosen for a gentler cleansing profile

These ingredients are commonly used in mild rinse-off formulations, including facial and baby-care cleansers. We choose them because they allow us to build effective cleansing systems while aiming for a comfortable skin feel during and after rinsing.

SLS-free is not surfactant-free

A cleanser still needs ingredients that perform the cleansing function. We prefer to explain exactly what we use rather than relying on broad claims such as “chemical-free” or suggesting that every surfactant works the same way.

And what about handmade soap?

Traditional handmade soap cleanses through saponified oils and butters rather than SLS or SLES. Its chemistry and cleansing system are different from a liquid surfactant-based cleanser.
